Initiative Impact
Monitoring and evaluation is the role of Aurora College, since the materials were developed specifically for their programs. We evaluate the use and effectiveness of the materials through a survey of adult educators. We also monitor downloads from our webpage, and have average 500,000 – 750-000 downloads a month since January 2012.
The resources are very popular, and have to be constantly reprinted, but we have limited resources to do that.
There is a huge need for Math resources for adult learners.
Research in to how adults learn Math is scarce.
This practical approach has much more appeal and relevance for adults than an ‘academic’ math course.
Incorporation of Essential Skills
All of the essential skills are integrated into the course through the practical activities.
Aurora College oversees monitoring and evaluation for the program. Monitoring and evaluation of participants’ essential skills is done by college courses that deliver a course using these materials
Project Components
The examples are more context-related. So for example the activities would use northern examples. The adult educators might convert these into Indigenous activities, like working out how to erect a tepee.
Many adult educators are non-Math specialists. This can be a bit of a problem helping people to understand basic concepts.
Aurora College uses all of our materials as supplementary resources.
