Aboriginal Literacy and Essential Skills Pilot Project

Initiative Description:

During the three year community-based Aboriginal Literacy and Essential Skills (ALES) Pilot Project, Literacy Victoria developed a regional First Nations Adult Literacy and Essential Skills (LES) framework. They assisted First Nations communities on southern Vancouver Island (BC, Canada) and their citizens in developing individual and community learning plans and pathways that are culturally relevant and reflective of customized LES needs, interests and priorities. Literacy Victoria worked with five South Vancouver Island First Nations communities as pilot sites (urban and remote) utilizing a First Nations holistic lifelong learning model and sought advisory support and guidance from the Wilnew Employment and Skills and Training Services (Victoria region) Committee.
