Stepping Stones Certificate in Community Capacity Building for Rural Aboriginal Communities

Initiative Description:

The Stepping Stones Certificate in Community Capacity Building is a blended online/ in-person, culturally relevant, Literacy and Essential Skills program designed to help Aboriginal adults living in rural/remote communities realize their personal and community capacity building goals. The curriculum includes the identification, planning, implementing and evaluation of a community-based project that contributes to a longer-term, community-identified focus area or goal. Literacy and Essential Skills are woven throughout, and are directly linked to the transferable Essential Skills related to implementing and managing small community projects. A community-based tutor-mentor supports learners with the online curriculum. Learners who complete the program earn a non-credit, Simon Fraser University Certificate in Community Capacity Building.
