Aboriginal Trades Forum

Initiative Description:

The Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board held two one-day Trades Forums in Dryden and Thunder Bay. The purpose of these forums was to make First Nations, Métis, and Inuit living in Northwestern Ontario, better aware of career opportunities within the trades and gain a better understanding of apprenticeship processes and learn about the academic and skill requirements (literacy and ES) necessary for entrance into the trades.

Representatives from industries, unions, colleges and training institutions were present to speak with participants about their goals and opportunities that could help them attain those goals. In total, over 330 representatives from area First Nations, Métis groups and off-reserve Aboriginal people benefited from this event.
